TOMS Shoes

TOMS shoes are not something NEW. They’ve been around for awhile. I’ve heard of TOMS shoes when the company first started. Their motto is, “One for One.” You buy a pair of shoes, and they donate one to a child in need.

A while ago, I was at the Massachusetts Conference for Women, and one of the speakers was the founder of TOMS shoes, Blake Mycoskie. He told the crowd the story behind TOMS shoes. It was so touching. I was crying halfway through his story. I was very touched by his story. (My father used to tell me how my mom only had one pair of shoes to go to school with, when she was growing up in Cambodia.) It really hits home. And I really wanted to help out.

Since inception, TOMS Shoes has come out with more products than just shoes. They have sunglasses, if you buy them, TOMS donates money to help children with vision problems. They even sell coffee. (Which I’ve heard from friends that the coffee is good. I don’t drink coffee, so I wouldn’t know.)

Additionally, their shoes selections have increased. They even have wedges!!

Well, anyhow, my Converse are no longer comfortable for me. I needed to buy a pair of casual shoes. And I thought, “why not buy a pair of TOMS and do something good with a purchase for once?” So, I had to buy a pair of TOMS that aren’t just boring in color. (If you know me, you’d know I don’t get any basic color for shoes. Especially when they are just an ordinary style for everyday use.)

After browsing Nordstrom’s website for awhile, I found the perfect pair for me! A SILVER pair! Woo hoo!!!

They look even better in person. Really cute one! And to my surprise, they’re quite comfy! (In comparison to my Louboutin!)

I’m just waiting for the rain to stop so I can start wearing my new TOMS!!!

With my wedding coming up, I have been looking for a rehearsal dinner dress. Something different, not your typical boring white or off-white dress. I had my eyes set on a Herve Leger dress, and now that it’s on sale, I BOUGHT IT!!!!! Can’t disclose my complete outfit until after my wedding.

American Ireland Fund Gala Boston 2012

I was lucky enough to attend the American Ireland Fund Gala for work on November 15, 2012 at the Westin Boston Waterfront. The American Ireland Fund is to be the largest network of friends of Ireland dedicated to supporting programs of peace and reconciliation, arts and culture, education and community development throughout the island of Ireland.

When I got the invitation, which said it’s a “black tie event,” I knew I wanted to fit into an old black Badgley Mischka gown, which I’ve had since 2006. That was a long time ago! I had originally bought the gown, along with my first (and favorite) pair of jeweled Jimmy Choo shoes, for a work-related holiday party at the De Young Museum in San Francisco. Like I said, 2006 was a long time ago. I was young, and skinnier than I am now. I had tried to fit the gown for my friend Hilary’s wedding back in April, but that didn’t work out so well. Plus, I don’t believe in wearing black to a wedding (Chinese superstitions).

I had been working out extra hard to fit into this gown, since I was training for my Spartan Race at Fenway for later in the month anyway. I bought myself a Polar sports watch and heart rate monitor (all in one), and ramped up my cardio routine. And voila!!! I FIT the gown! It totally made my day when I put on the gown. SUCCESS!!!!

My coworker/friend, Eve, was going to the event as well. And she’d asked me to help her with her hair and makeup. How could I say no? She wore an Alice + Olivia bronze peplum dress. Totally cute. So, I curled her hair and swiped it to the side and pinned it. And for makeup, Eve doesn’t normally wear a lot of makeup. I tried a smokey look for her eyes, which she didn’t like. So, I just toned it down with some lighter eye shadows, and voila! (pics below)

Below are some of the pictures I took at the gala. And the best part of the night, besides fitting the gown, and being surrounded by awesome friends that I was with, I got to meet John Farrell. Who knew I’d get to meet the new head coach for the Red Sox! And boy, he is REALLY handsome in person. And his wife was very pretty as well, and nice.

Basically, I am very happy that I was able to fit into my awesome gown, and wore it to a great event. So, I wanted to brag to the world! Ha. I hope you didn’t mind reading this!

My New Rainboots!

For those of you who live in the Boston area, you know we had quite a rainy (and cold) day today. While walking home, I realized that my Silver Hunter boots are broken 😦 The left boot has a leak somewhere in it, causing my foot to be wet. I’m so sad because I have my silver boots. Hunter makes amazing rainboots, that are timeless. When I got my boots, I wanted something different, so I got a silver pair.

I have had my Hunters for almost 3 years now, so it’s outlived it’s worth really. I wear it in the rain, and snow, so they have been worth every penny I spent on them. And I’ve gotten plenty of compliments from men and women. Some of my friends have called them my “moon boots,” “space boots,” “Tin Man boots.”

Long story short, I LOVE silver Hunters! So, I started to look for a replacement – same silver pair of Hunters. Unfortunately, they are not available anywhere! Which got me upset.

I started searching for rainboots in general on sites like Nordstrom and Bloomingdales, and then, I saw the next “different” pair of rainboots – SNAKE PRINT HUNTERS!!!

Hunter’s website has them for $195. I decided to Google the boots to see if there are sales anywhere. What did I find? 25% these Hunter Carnaby Snake boots at 6pm.com!
